15A - Figuring out Buyer Behavior No. 2
1)
I interviewed Ryan Emery, Kara Spierto, and Drew
Burgelin for this assignment. These candidates are fourth year students at the University
of Florida.
2)
In my specific case, there are not many
alternatives for the product/service that I am working towards developing. When
speaking to the three interviewees mentioned above, I realized that when it
comes to library going students they are looking for convenience and ease of
access to quality study spaces. Between the three students previously
mentioned, the only true alternative option mentioned during the interviews to my
library-helper app is the DIBS system at UF, which only applies to study rooms
in campus libraries. Other quick fix solutions involve texting friends and
hoping they have seats by them or just going home/finding a different area
around campus. I believe this is why my idea is so unique is because it does
not compete with other existing products. All three students said that if the
app was even a little bit helpful to them finding a seat in a library quicker,
then they would use it since there are no alternatives at the current moment.
3)
My segment is more willing to buy online due to
the targeted customer segment being college students. The service is also an
app based platform that is only available on mobile platforms. I believe this
is a benefit though because apps are attractive to the college generation and
often draw students in with deals to local restaurants, which is what my app
would also do.
4)
The thing that matters most to my customers and
in general for most all consumers is a quality product that solves an issue for
them that they face on a pretty normal basis. A quality product, easy access,
benefits of use, and affordable price are all the criteria that is put into
considering
5&6)
Based on my interviews, I realize that my
product serves a large customer segment and does not have any viable
alternatives on the market right now. I believe that the targeted customers
would download the product and would evaluate the purchase on a quality basis
and whether or not it solves their issue.
Hey Luke,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog post very interesting and succinct. Since your product has no alternatives it sounds like you're in good shape. I would make sure of this though; just because this app does not exist here in Gainesville/UF, does not mean that other schools have not developed something similar. The accuracy of the app results would also be dependent on everyone using the app so make sure that promotion and spreading word-of-mouth is a big part of your business plan.
Hey Matt,
ReplyDeleteI thought that it was great that you identified the lack of viable competition against your product. I agree that apps are popular to the college generation. My product would be sold online as well to allow for more customization. DIBS is the only active solution to your problem, as you stated, and this does only apply to study rooms. Your innovative app would be filling a hole in the market! Good job!
