26A - Celebrating Failure

The most impactful failure that I experienced
this semester was the difficulty of the first elevator pitch. It was a
challenge having to put everything together that we had been working on in
class into a brief oral summary. The first one that I completed was not very
good at all and did not live up to the expectations that I had for myself.

After receiving feedback from my peers, I could
recognize what I needed to improve upon and move forward from there. I learned
that having other people provide constructive criticism is extremely helpful in
the development of an idea and a presentation. My next pitch was much better
and my peers left comments confirming that the second time around was much
better than the previous pitch.
3)
In my opinion, failure is not a negative. The
idea of failure in and of itself is obviously not the goal of any person but I
believe that success is impossible without failure. Failure motivates a person to
work a bit harder every time that it occurs. The reaction to failure is what
determines the future of an individual. Those that choose to roll over and give
up will remain in the state of failure. But those who decide to learn from the
past, adjust, and move forward will not only succeed but will increase cherish
that success to a greater extent.

ReplyDeleteYou picked a great assignment to write about since we did multiple elevator pitches this semester. I also thought the elevator pitch was one of the more challenging assignments this semester, and the comments pointing out my successes and failures really allowed me to improve the second time around. Overall great job!
Matt, the first elevator pitch was definitely not the easiest assignment and takes a lot of courage to complete, let alone complete it successfully. Although our professor gave us three attempts which made it easier each time and I feel that was very redeemable. How you react to failure is what defines you, if you look at it as an attempt and continue to progress then you are on the right track.
